    I'm being the devil's advocate here ... tis all.

    Might it not be expected that Alan is not popular with the troops if he is the agent responsible for rooting out all the comfy, anti productive little fifdoms and creature comforts in the place?

    Who truly believes that if these inefficiencies were allowed to continue (now that their removal is somewhere between a threat and reality) it suddenly turn around the airline's fortunes?

    Qantas can't surely be fundamentally different than any other national airline having to compete in a global market place?

    If it is not Alan in the role, then might the board have a responsibility to find a similar change agent to complete the process?

    Is an alternative government funding and/or government protectionism and how might this be viewed in a global market place?
