Steam reformers use catalysts also in producing hydrogen. I've worked at a couple. It can be quite expensive to produce hydrogen in steam reformers. I don't think Hazer are the first people to trial iron, although I believe they are so far probably the most successful.
I also think they use hydrogen fed back into their reformer to mix it with methane to achieve high temps that they require. It does seem quite interesting, with a very cheap iron catalyst...different markets to 14d though I feel.
