I got the PSA test free this year 2024 because many years ago I was diagnosed as having an enlarged prostate. It was done as part of an annual checkup.
The only complaint I have is that the medication I was prescribed by my urologist many years ago and managed by my GP is not on the PBS and I pay full price for it for many years.
Why can't mens medication be on the PBS? It is very effective and as a result I have not needed any surgery or developed cancer so far.
All men need the check and agree it should be free over 35 until the end of life as many of my friends have had prostate cancer and early detection is a life saver.
Is the change to charge the fee due to changes in the medical professions decision about the PSA test or some other factor ?
