. The opposition's (Albanese's) support for the tax cuts the way they were formulated came out of cynical political tactics by the then government. Instead of proposing them individually in legislation the government put them forward as an omnibus bill where to vote down any part of the package was to vote down the entire thing. That put Labor in the position of having to vote against cuts that were going immediately to low income earners, if it wanted to oppose the stage 3 element that came in later. So Labor, rather than becoming a whipping boy for a cynical government who wanted to cast them as opposing tax cuts for low income earners, voted for the package in its entirety in accordance with that political imperative. They're now delivering on the second part of that political imperative, directing the tax cuts to low and middle income earners who need them in the current economic climate.
