Might be less need for so much housing if the govt stopped importing and/or granting permanency to so many foreigners.
I get the US, European and Oz strategy of bulking up the numbers of able bodied for the inevtiable future conflict with the Ruskies and Chinaman, but wouldn't on call mercanaries be cheaper? There's all those pro Palestinian street warriors out there just spoiling for a fight who could be drafted.
