I agree. Everything we read is laden with preconceptions. Of course if he has language skill then it’s possible to read in multiple languages as well and that gives more flavour still. Though a trifle rusty I can make enough sense of French, German and Russian as well as English. That says makes for interesting perspectives

cold war is an interesting term. I guess it is. It is certainly a war of propaganda and deception. If people don’t think that their views, whatever they are, are shaped by multiple influences they are nuts.

I had an interesting conversation with my brother in law with whom I have been staying about the importance of evidence but then he is an historian after a career as an accountant. So he believes there is objective fact. I don’t. History is still written by the victors or those with power over what is recorded.
