"When renewable power generation is truely a cost effective replacement for coal and gas, businesses will transition to these renewables (already happening). When renewables really have an edge over fossil fuels, you will see a natural decline in the demand for coal and gas. It’s really the most basic of economics, and companies making the transition will gain ESG credendials by the market and financiers."

    You're right it is happening.
    Which is good news.

And no one has presented more evidence of this than @acorn him/her self, with the many examples kindly posted by him/her over many months.

Trouble is, this reality tends to undermine a certain political narrative from certain elements; so, curiously, it is good news that is barely acknowledged - and almost never celebrated - by those people "demanding urgent action", and almost irrespective of the cost.

"Meanwhile, we keep hearing of the great lead China and India are taking in the transition to renewables. This can only be a good thing."

    Again, great news indeed.

Because if the problem of rising global emissions is to be halted and reversed, then the largest and fastest growing emitters is where it needs to happen most urgently.

But, again, my observation is that this not necessarily something that a certain cohort of people appear to be overly keen to applaud, because it undermines their particular political position.
