The deal is total crap. Everyone knows it. But, what could Albanese do?
If he refused to sign off on the deal --------------- Australia would have then been seen as AND in fact been - a serial buster of deals, one NEVER to be trusted!
It was bad enough what Morrison did on the submarine deal. If a successive government - and of a different persuasion had pulled out of ANOTHER deal - Australia would have lost even MORE reputation.
In the light of that there is no way I would call Albanese a fool - I think that's truly insulting to him - as much as I dislike the AUKUS intensely - Albanese did what he had to.
Now - if Australia is dammed lucky - it might dump the crappy deal where it truly belongs = in some deep trench in the Pacific.
