Spending by government is VITAL ---------- it's called INVESTMENT
it's what builds nations -the most important investment for a government is in it's people
investing in citizens is what turns countries into nations -- the priorities are
*housing
*infrastructure
*health
*education
if ANY of those are not heavily and fully funded - then a nation can't grow - it's impossible.
It's what debt should be used for - LOTS of it.
It is a lack of this very basic philosophical viewpoint above - that Australia has all the issues it's got at present and an economy that is not like other 'really' developed nations.
Australia has got a cut cut cut, low debt culture - something which is totally cancerous
this - in combination with Federation - is totally toxic.
Governments MUST spend - invest - there is - no option if they wish to have a nation.
