Just because he barred DOGE from access to Defence didn't mean a review wouldn't happen. It was just too critical to allow Musk and his team do it. What shouldn't be inevitable was that the AUKUS submarines are in jeopardy. For if Australia had been serious about its defence and was viewed by Washington as a responsible partner, rather than deadbeat bludgers, the submarine deal would be safe. As it stands, modifications to the Sterling naval base in Perth in readiness for visiting US submarines, is being curtailed by a colony of fairy penguins. China must be laughing their heads off right now.

add to this, his America First priority means he'll possibly decide they need more nuke subs for their own attack capability. and so AUKUS subs may be put on the back-burner..... the one that has no gas. and as others have sensibly suggested he may want to increase the cost to Aus.
