keep referring to "highly skilled workers". Is this a pseudonym for tradesmen
Well they have brought in new fast track visas. One for the thinkers without a list of occupations and another where someone deems there is a shortage and comes up with a list. The thinkers only need their brains and a laptop or computer to design and invent things that the doers construct. The unions always push for training of locals first before filling shortages so Labor will go along with that demand. Both sides of politics try and come up with ideas of how to train more workers and overcome apprentice training dropout rates.
From AFR
Labor will create a visa pathway for employers to bring in migrants earning more than $135,000 in an application process that will take just seven days and with no occupation lists.
Highly paid tradies, machinery operators, drivers and labourers have been excluded from the so-called “specialist skills” pathway even if they earn more than $135,000, amid pressure from the union movement.Instead, tradies would need to come through the new “core skills” visa stream, which will only allow applications if a job is deemed to be in shortage by the federal government. Visas in this stream will be processed at a slower pace of 21 days.
