Sky News host Caleb Bond says theAustralian Federation of Islamic Councils wants the Labor Party to “bow” tothem.
The Labor Party had beenconducting a review into its diversity policies, and were taking submissions;including one from the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils.
“They’ve had a submission fromthe Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, and they’re basically asking formore power within the party,” Mr Bond said.
“They’ve said quote, ‘the absenceof formal recognition for Islamic family traditions in law or policy hasinadvertently pushed some within the community to seek unofficial agreements topreserve their traditions’.

“They added also that theexpectation for immigrants, quote, ‘especially those from non-Westernbackgrounds has often leaned towards assimilation’ at the expense of culturaltraditions and values.”
