We hear these theories all the time on HC: Sellers are controlling the price so they can accumulate. I'm sure that 90+% of the time they are wrong. The price direction will be determined by the balance of buyers and sellers. If there are more buyers than sellers, the price will rise, any sellers trying to hold the price down will sell there entire holdings, then miss 0ut on the following price rise.

If there are people trying to hold the price down for some corporate action, they would have to buy shares before they could sell, adding to the overall buying pressure. ( excluding the possibility of shorting due to the lack of short sales activity. ). I dont think that normal company management are in to that sort of activity.
