    Haven't received a response from Alcidion as to whether we intend to put a proposal together on the below Tender. It seems to be a bit outside our current core offerings, but maybe a strategic direction we might be interested in taking. Closing Date 21st December.

    MONASH HEALTH RFT 16-0000014 for: Mobile Clinical Task Management Solution
    Estimated Timeframes are: Closing Date: 21st Dec; Short list 13th Jan; Presentations Jan/Feb; Contract Commencement  Apr.

    The project seeks to implement a mobile clinical task management solution to enhance clinical task management efficiency and effectiveness. The initial focus will be for staff working nights and weekends. The project aims to address the risk posed by the inadequate pager based infrastructure to execute effective clinical task management, between clinicians, primarily between doctors and nurses, and with a focus on the hospital at night as priority.

    Current modes of communication, such as the unidirectional paging system, require multiple manual, time consuming steps in order to complete a communication feedback loop. This multi-stage process results in poor procedural compliance with ISBAR structured messaging, putting patients at risk of delayed assessment and treatment.

    Task request and acknowledgement is challenging due to incomplete messaging and is reliant on staff responding with a telephone call to the message owner. This system leads to interruptions in treatment, adding to inefficiencies in the delivery of care for our patients. Additionally, clinical staff often receive multiple requests for the same task, contributing to increased stress and fatigue. This may result in important and urgent information being missed, further compromising patient care and their outcomes.
    Clinical staff currently do not have a medium to accurately and effectively prioritise tasks and requests. Received tasks are often transcribed to a paper-based list and are received from widespread areas of the hospital. This potentially increases the risk of breaches to patient confidentiality from lost or misplaced lists, whilst placing significant pressure on staff. These problems are confounded by the lack of functionality to reallocate tasks across the entire overnight team and to ensure an equitable workload distribution for all clinical staff at night.
    The project is expected to deliver numerous benefits to the health service, specifically:
    1. Reduce delays in care, and improve delivery of timely and safe care to hospital patients at night
    2. Improve patient experiences of care overnight
    3. Improved staff collaboration and workload management leading to increases in staff satisfaction
    4. Improve effective use of hospital resources at night

    Project Definition
    This initiative will ensure the timely progression of care by providing an improved communication system between clinicians that includes:

    1. A web/desktop application which facilitates input of tasks onto a digital task board;
    2. A mobile application used to view and acknowledge tasks; and
    3. A server application which will act as a service layer and provide data persistence for the mobile and web/desktop applications.

    Using the above system, a night clinical lead can distribute tasks to ensure optimum use of clinical staff’s time and expertise. For example, when a task is acknowledged on the mobile device, nursing staff will know immediately that a doctor will attend to their request when able. Doctors can view a legible list of tasks they are expected to complete, and prioritise them accordingly.
    This will significantly improve the efficiency of clinical staff workflows, and improve the timeliness of care for patients. The increased efficiency will improve patient safety and increase both staff and patient satisfaction over the long periods out of normal business hours. Staff will also be in more frequent contact with each other, allowing for night shifts to become more collaborative with colleagues.
