"An increased recycling rate for aluminium beverage cans and keeping them in Australia as a feedstock would secure aluminium rolling in Australia."

a very telling comment, so the recycled feedstock now sufficiently cost advantageous to change markets....not good for Australia of course unless we can increase the can recovery here, SA still leading the way with cash incentives but how about the other states! Cmon Australia - throw that empty stubbie where it belongs!

For us tho......the future is secondary alumium production eclipsing primary as our main source of AL. We all need it...use it, every day. From the can of Coke to the shiny great lump of metal in the engine bay. No - your hybrid Camry really isn't all that environmentally sound at all, between batteries and bauxite we really need a rethink.

The future markets will force secondary recycling to the fore, by carbon tax or foreign exchange rates, or simply being more profitable, it is inevitable,

So even if we ignore the environment, we need to recover every scrap of aluminium we use as the population of the world is not receding and each one will demand their Coke or Camry. Too much Aluminium ending up in slag landfill or general waste.

MHM closed loop recycling the plug in the bath.
