There was an article in the AFR a month or so back which explained that the CGT discount is only available on shares that pay a dividend (i.e. INVESTMENTS). The ATO doesn't allow the discount on shares for SPECULATION such as MAE. I didn't believe it either but the writer seemed an authority on the subject.
Maybe that's why he isn't too worried about it.
