Alexium performed PyroMan™ burn testing on October 21, 2015.  The testing was completed at NC State TPACC (Textile Protection and Comfort Center).  This state-of-the-art facility is only one of two in the nation that is certified to complete this extensive testing on predictive body burn analysis.  The only other PyroMan™ burn chamber is located at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center.


This test meets military requirements for the FR Army Combat Uniform and consists of a four second full manikin body burn.  The PyroMan™ comprises of a fully instrumented, life-sized manikin used to evaluate the performance of thermally protective clothing. Housed in a large fire test chamber, the PyroMan™ system provides safe, controlled, repeatable exposures of flame threats. PyroMan™ is a highly sophisticated instrument used to study garment and body reaction to intense heat and flames. Computerized analysis of manikin sensor response indicates potential tissue burn injury to a wearer, burn area, and severity.


Through these trials, Alexium was able to evaluate how the Alexiflam FR Chemistry compares to non-treated NyCo army combat uniforms.  The results showed a significant decrease in body burn and a dramatic decrease in after flame of the Alexium treated garments. Along with other testing, this further validates the Alexium chemistry as a durable and effective FR treatment.  The Alexiflam treated fabrics perform to NFPA 2112 standards, one of the most difficult FR standards to pass and a critical requirement for a military placement.

We are extremely pleased with the results we received by this trial and will move forward with our continued military efforts.  The data we received will contribute to our current and future military projects.  Our hope is that we will not only continue to meet the current standards but improve as further development continues along with multiple military projects.
