'The future of aquaculture lies perhaps in these green tubes. This lab and other labs across Europe are working hard to try and crack the code which could change the face of the industry, making it more profitable and more sustainable along the way. Researchers here spend their days dissecting algae including that found at Veta la Palma. They hope it could work as an alternative source of protein for fish.'
Carlos Unamunzaga, lab GM from Easy Algae states in the video in reference to algae, "They have a very nutritious component that can be used as a very valuable feed source for feeding animals or humans. We could develop the perfect or almost perfect diet for these fish."
'Carlos believes they are five years away from hitting the jackpot and creating the fish food of the 21st century, one that does not include wild fish.'
Carlos again,"There would be no lack of raw material, prices would be stable, we could control production and it would be environmentally friendly. It would not affect any food chain in nature."
'A brave new world may one day come out of these test tubes.'
