It's a pretty common theme in spiritual literature, including the Bible. The best I can come up with at this point, given the amount of similarities in cultural mythology is they all probably stem from a common shared event so far back in the past that the precise details have become a bit varied over time. There's enough to be able to figure things out for ourselves though.
