Maybe your bank / broker screwed up?
Might have to do with the facts that when you buy shares, others often hold them in your name - so on Alks share register, it's not you who shows up, but your bank as a nomminee ... (there is half a page about that in the booklet on Alks homepage (ASX release 1 March IIRC).
Conversely, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could also participate with the shares I bought on exchanges in Europe ...
