Venezuela is suffering from a sharp decline in oil revenue and has over $40 billion in debt due within the next 12 months. They are considering selling off over 500 tonnes of gold to meet their debt obligations. If this happens such a large amount released onto the market may push the price lower. On the other hand, if the market is able to absorb such a large amount and the price remains somewhat stable, gold could push much higher.
