I have been trading the ASX and the US markets for several years including the dot com era and sure, check out some of the dot com high fliers now, if you can find them....the institutions were saying that a PE of 2000 was reasonable!!!
I personally favour cash at this point although I have been shorting the Real Estate and Financial sectors until recently. I took a 30% long position in US Oil and Energy last Thursday with Hurricane Deane forecasted to cut across Texas on Wednesday.
