Yes there should have been and be, one seed so to speak, however, that seed it would seem was lost, ignored what appears to be around 1-150 years after Jesus.
Now then, what you appear to fail to acknowledge, the key necessary basics, first milk of who and what God and Jesus are, is loud and clear in the Bible
No wotsup, they did not lose it. The reality is, you have come up with a different take on the bible and the only way to justify it or make one’s version sound to be true is by putting down the first Christians accusing them off having gone astray.
That would indicate Jesus Failed big time, especially the Apostles when under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, ... sorry no dice..
Even Mrg at one stage reckons the first Christians martyrs were JW to justify themselves, when in reality they only started about a 100 years ago.
Most protestant churches make similar claims that they are the original Christians, again too justify their existence.
The reality is, one’s take on the bible is not a reliable source of truth as it hinges on what glasses the reader is wearing, that simple.
Like it or not we have to bounce our understanding of the bible with other historical documents to get a clear picture of what / how early Christianity practiced their faith.
From the time of the last Apostle John, or just after his death, we know that Jesus was seen to be God, we have writings from Ignatius around 115 writes “ For our God, Jesus the Christ”
Pliny the Younger was governor of Pontus and Bithynia from 111-113 was a prosecutor of Christians, being an honest man, he couldn’t find a reason to do so, ended up writing a letter to Emperor Trajan saying Christians bind themselves by oath, not to some crime, but not to commit fraud, theft, or adultery and meet early in the morning to worship Jesus as God, when this was over they met again to partake in food.
We see from early Christian period coming down from the apostles, Jesus was seen as God, seconded by their adversary as to what Christians believed, all has come down to us today, as it is what the majority of Christians believe.
But, yes of course there were many who lost faith during the prosecution, many lost faith and cursed Jesus when faced with death, but as Pliny writes they were not Christians at all.
