All guns firing at Metal Storm
THINGS are looking up at Brisbane group Metal Storm, if from a low base. The company, which in recent months had a brush with financial oblivion before getting several much-needed financial transfusions, announced yesterday it had had an order from the United States Marine Corps to provide 45 Improvised Explosive Device/Explosive Ordnance Disposal (IED/EOD) training kits to a value of $US691,610.
Quite apart from the fact that it's nice to see the armaments developer getting revenue for selling things that will stop people being blown into little pieces, it's worth noting that the one order alone, worth $757,000 in our currency, constitutes well over half of the company's entire 2009 revenue number of $1.1 million. Metal Storm, which has had a succession of near-misses with the all-important US arms industry, lost $11.3m in 2009.
Yesterday's news gave the share price a much needed shove, from 1.4c to 1.6c, the latter being exactly in line with the price Singapore-based Australian investor Andrew Doyle paid
