The ferrosilicon market outside of China continues to firm. In the US, small quantities were booked at high as $1.24 per lb, ddp, with virtually no sales, including chips, were concluded at $1.20. Supplies from Brazil have virtually dried up due to some of the smelters’ technical problems and shipment delays due to COVID.

China’s Gansu Province will impose higher power prices for furnaces below 12.5 kva. The price will be increased by rmb0.10 per kva as of Apr. 1. The feeling is that all the Chinese provinces will be enacting new stiffer environmental controls via power pricing in coming months.
