Ulanqab, a city in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on April 6 issued a notice related to the plan for eliminating outdated and excess capacity and released the list of companies (equipment) from key industries under restrictions, including 29 ferroalloy producers, 2 calcium carbide producers and 3 graphite electrode producers. Among the ferroalloy companies on the list, 19 are ferrochrome producers, involving a total of 33 submerged arc furnaces with capacity of about 806,000t. In addition, silicomanganese producers are required to close 26 furnaces (≤12,500KVA) and 2 furnaces (12,500-25,000KVA), and ferrosilicon producers are required to close 64 furnaces (12,500KVA), 22 furnaces (≤8,000KVA), 2 furnaces (10,000KVA) and 2 furnaces (25,000KVA).The notice requires relevant companies from key industries such as iron and steel, ferroalloy, calcium carbide, coke and graphite electrode to formulate a work plan as soon as possible and specify details for each year from 2021 to 2023, with over 80% of work to be scheduled in the first two years.
