It takes around 4 qrtrs, or 12 months to call a recession.
In this case, going from the start of the sub-prime melt down in August 2007 .. it has taken 5 quarters before they actually could "officially" announce a recession.
If the next quarter (1st 09) sees any rebound in the US figures (which IMO will be a given) then "unofficially" the recession is pretty much history. This is a historical fact.
I have been waiting for them to "officially" announce it ... great news IMO
