You are spot on.
zip not proceeding with an acquisition of an arguably worthless asset, is far better than proceeding with said asset. I think personally it does potentially avoid litigation , although it is only one of many events unfolding.
It seems to me that it is basically rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.
