I mean, really, what did everyone think ESG would do? Just sit around, not do deals with other parties..? Just wait passively, like a lamb to the slaughter, waiting for the coup de grace from Santos..?

The idea is just too ridiculous.

And as JT has highlighted (pretty convincingly too), there is a very real need for extra gas in QLD. Not just in GLNG either, for which Santos is already committed to a second train by virtue of their Total deal. Santos' competitors want the gas too. So, we will sell it to them them!

So ESG is on a crash course with Santos. Santos will HAVE to bid for ESG. Because ESG selling into a competitor project in QLD just creates an intolerable loss of face for Santos. The ESG 'investment' would be an unacceptable use of Santos' capital. The Santos shareholders and analysts would have Knox' head.

It would make Santos look stupid.

'What the hell are we doing funding sales to our competitors for?

Is THIS what we spent half a billion for?"

And, as we have seen, ESG has drawn some timelines in the sand for this year. ESG and Santos are on a collision course.

Only a matter of time before ESG pulls the trigger...
