People/the world will not forgo fuel. We need it to heat, cool and travel. Without these, world production stops.

Without housing, people sleep on the streets, or source lower level housing. Heck, they might even rent it from those that can afford two residences.
We may buy more economical cars, but we need oil to produce those more economical cars - the population isn't getting any smaller.
Relate it to the Tech boom - please. We're dealing with an actual resource here..

We are dealing with a NON-Renewable resource.. Alternate energy will prevail, it has to - but not till every last barrel of black gold is sucked out of the ground.

Oil rules the world - like it or not, (ooh, and religion - but let's not go there) Just ask George Dubbaya..
