agree mate, but for me it’s the (blindingly obvious) ability for an OEM to secure the rights to produce (or on sell batteries) 3m vehicles per annum from a company currently valued by the market at Au$8.5b. This really
is chump change for established decade old car manufactures.
Tesla has already gone upstream via cathode production, and conversion. It makes a lot of sense for them to take over AKE and secure a lot of material. But I doubt that will happen, simply for the fact that if it was going to, it would have happen already. Musk has opened his mouth, highlighting the need to go into mining. If anything this shines a spot light on the increasing demand for limited supply and therefore amplifies the situation for OEMs trying to secure long term supply. Maybe, he wants to see the scramble amongst the other players?
not sure how it plays out from here, but I suspect Toyota will want first right here… time will tell. it sure does feel like a Mexican stand off between OEM and raw material producers. Again, we don’t need to deal…
