In this day and age, we as a society cannot afford to be lazy in the allocation of capital anymore. Govt as a sgnificant piece of this puzzle cannot either.

There is already an oversubscription to govt spending on both a federal and state level. Thus it becomes imperative that the Rudd does not waste this spend that he insists we will get.

The latest from Business Spectator discusses this here http://www.businessspectator.com.au/bs.nsf/Article/infrastructure-$pd20090316-Q6QR9?OpenDocument&src=sph

"The government part of that chapter is becoming more and more intriguing. Governments in Australia – federal, state and local – admit now that they don’t have the spending capacity to resolve the pre-existing infrastructure crisis, let alone beef up infrastructure spending as a pathway out of recession. "

Where there is the ability to let others raise the capital and proceed with projects, the govt should step back and reallocate that capital to another project.. god help us there is no shortage of projects.
    This will do 2 things
1 allow more projects to be completed, and
2.increase aggregate demand at a time when the economy needs it .

Back to Conroy. Is it in his Character to put Australia first by allowing a defacto NBN* to be built by TLS and thus reallocate those funds/resources?
Or is it going to be more of the same political BS where a project is steamrolled through despite deteriorating fundamentals of the project?

    Man or Mouse Conroy?
    Leader or Political Hack?

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

    * A deal could be struck with TLS allowing them to build their version of the NBN but with some government specified extensions. Combined with the judicious use of subsidies for those isolated to be able to use an expanded version of Next G or similar for example.

Telstra could and would build such a network. It would be done more cost effectively, and much more quickly.
