The typical timeline is:
File provisional patent application (Optional (Can start with complete application) - establishes priority date)
within 12 months
File complete patent application
12 to 36 months
Patent Office starts examination process (check validity/inventiveness aginst prior documents
~ 12 months
Acceptance/rejection
3 months
Grant patent if accepted.
So it can take 4 years or more from filing the initial application before the patent is granted.
