Much better to rent and travel first.
Its a huge country. Many people don't realize its a huge country with many "Different" ethnicities and cultures.
I first went there in 2003 and was shocked by the pace of construction and manufacturing. Of course, the price they paid back then, was pollution in the air and rivers. I was an asthmatic and used to suffer asthma attacks just walking around.
But since the Chinese took on Evs, solar panels, wind and hydro, their skies have been clean and waterways are clear. And they planted billions of trees to absorb the carbons from their existing coal burning.
Its amazing how quickly they have transformed.
Now, they are very modern; more than what you would see in Australia, US and EU.
They rarely ever use paper money anymore - almost everything is paid by your phone. Can still use them at the airport.
But before you start travelling, make sure you sign up with Alipay or Wechat, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get very far.
You will see a very different world than the one our biased media have "imaged" for us.
