Through its effective ‘Too Magic to Mine’ campaign, and a growing social media presence, the stakeholder coalition (SC) from the small town of Quinninup has emerged as an important voice on the perils of mining in the Southwest. Here the SC uses standard economic impact analysis tools to argue that the local and regional community will draw little benefit, but bear significant costs from new projects such as the Antwalker silica sands mine proposed on Quinninup’s doorstep
