    Its not that they're indifferent to bad news but so much of it is already priced in. October was one of the worst months on the market ever, there was an almost total credit freeze, banks collapsing and governments intervening, endless talk of recession and even depression in the media. Hardly surprising if people aren't thinking its a good time to go buy a new car.

    Hopefully a new president will give Americans a new outlook. A change in sentiment is what's needed and that can set up its own virtuous circles. Some better economic policies might help too but could be too much to ask.
