I like your optimism but I don't share it. Firstly Australia doesn't have charismatic, competent politicians with vision to convince people that their policies are the way forward. Secondly no one trusts politicians or their 'word' in Australia. And lastly Australians are too selfish to vote for anything that is in the best interests of the country as a whole unless they directly benefit from it. What's happened with the NDIS is entirely predictable, there's never been a government scheme that hasn't been abused or defrauded in Australia. Add to that the complete inability to put in safeguards or call out rorting for fear of retribution & we end up where we are. The NDIS was flawed by it's very design. The original concept was that people get a plan, have their lives turned around, they become productive members of society & they leave the plan. No one is leaving the plan! Where can you save money? Prosecute people committing fraud, both providers & recipients. Prosecute people for price gauging. Redefine what is & isn't covered. Have mandatory reassessments to ensure plans are still appropriate.

The Labor government are more interested in going after Coles and Woollies for charging 80 cents too much for a bag of potato chips than going after people committing NDIS fraud.
