Even PHON voters want it wound back.
People aged over 55 are most supportive of winding back investment property tax breaks, with 52 per cent in agreement, compared with 45 per cent of those aged 35 to 54 and 46 per cent of those aged under 35. Notably, 9 per cent of people under the age of 35 answered 'don't know'.
It makes sense to restrict NG to new housing. Thereby stimulating jobs for builders, jobs for building suppliers, job for furniture and whitegood sellers, landscapers etc etc. NG on existing houses does nothing of that. It is a paper title shuffle only that benefits overseas investors that do not live in the house. Existing NG would be grandfathered.
