the basic principle of mass spectrometry seems to be roughly much the same as PSYs technology . it coverts stuff/mass that sticks to the device/arm/tube to a measurable property e.g. electrical conductivity/resistance

PSY its optical modulation - stuff that sticks, changes a resonant optical frequency

working on the nano scale, targeting medical applications
such as pathology

if you read PSY patent it is their main goal... an "electronic nose"


but it doesnt have the other possible capabilities such as an accelerometer

I suspect PSYs tech ultimately could be superior, i.e if somehow the part of it that came in contact with what it is detecting, never needed cleaning/replacing

i suspect carbon nanotubes just clog up and thats it

but maybe they are cheap to replace
