Well if you had read certain papers like the herald sun in vic you would realise the damage that was being caused over the matter particularly the choice of Abbott's very own words which were quickly construed to work against him ...
I think since that time there is enough evidence to clear him of the harsh judgement that brewed over this whole affair, his excuse was clearly not an admission of indifference to our troops and it's a fact the coalition have a policy for more troops (unlike Labor) and Abbott seeked to meet with and visit troops on his own terms not Gillard's.
Those who fell for the misrepresentation of Abbott's words will probably not realise the error and I doubt there will be any apologies for some of the vile that was expressed towards him in the papers columns and letters to the editor.
