I think the advice by Macquarie must have been along the lines of " ... embarass the bastards ... shut up shop ... mothball the plants ... and let the electorate see just how pathetic the commitment of the major parties really is to alternate/renewable fuel production ... who knows, we might even get a pre-election knee jerk commitment to the future of the bio-diesel industry out of them"
While Labor cannot do anything to change the situation right now .. the Liberal party had EVERY opportunity and in fact screwed the bio-diesel industry by changing the Fuel Tax Act last year which previously gave them the benefit of a 36% subsidy (can't rightly recollect if it was 36c or 36%) per litre.
An alternate renewable energy (fuel) ... proven technology ... current production approaching 40 million litres per annum ... and they have to move to the USA where they have protections in place to prevent the export of cheap feedstock to China; where they mandate a certain % of their fuel to be renewables ...
