Tesla is using a polymer-coated mix of synthetic and natural graphite, similar to an anode composition for which Talga has a patent application - Post #: 57909725
VW does not exclude the use of a mix of natural and synthetic:
"Volkswagen execs also talked about using synthetic graphite in the battery anodes in order to enhance charging performance and speed up road trips"

Talga has an MoU for a cross-licence agreement with an Asian synthetic graphite company - https://www.talgagroup.com/irm/PDF/8a808d16-7f86-4f28-971a-cc1ab7988a1f/BatteryAnodeAgreementwithLongTimeTechnology
All the above leave open the possibility of Tesla and/or VW using a blend of natural and synthetic graphite in their anodes.
