I would think, as they have stated many times, their preference is for getting 'cash out' rather than putting cash in. Hence personally i think its unlikely we see anything 'brand new' or left field from an M&A perspective.
The biggest issue and consideration for HZN, but its a way off, is the expiry of their leases / negs to extend.
China leases....wild card, who knows and we probably won't know for a while.
Closer to home is NZ. Which brings us to Maari,
CUE, NZO and OMV are all involved in, near or around Maari....OMV must see Maari as the tiny tiny, but slightly annoying, split nail on their second toe. Already tried to sell it at least once. Entirely irrelevant to their interests in clean energy, new aviation fuels, hydro, batteries et al and also 18,141 km away from their head office.
It appears they are a willing seller. CUE is 50% owned by NZO and both therefore are relevant via Maari. And the CEO of NZO, Andrew Jefferies is ex OMV.
If we are going to put our cash anywhere it would be in a shareholder shakeout of Maari ownership, a consolidation perhaps of broader NZ oil interests and an investment in KIL which would make us Net Zero overnight and hence NZ govt grants extensions to us rather quickly perhaps....also noting on OMV's website their aim is to be net Zero only by 2050!
I think the above is unlikely but perhaps the most likely 'well known and close to us' M&A or strategic option that might possibly make sense.
