Alum shales are of increasing interest due to their rich content of critical metals / elements such as cobalt, chromium, molybdenum, neodymium, nickel, platinum group elements, rhenium and vanadium.
Polymetallic alum shale deposits are thus important potential resources for e.g. energy- and battery metals, metals in fuel cells (hydrogen fuel cell vehicles), aluminum- and steel products, super-strong magnets as well as fertilizers.
