By 2013 aluminium production is expected to be around 50.4m tonnes and consumption is predicted to be at 52.4 million tonnes. Laeving a deficit of 2m tonnes. Accordingly it takes around 4.5 - 5.0 mill tonnes of Bauxite to make 1 tonne of Aluminium. Current annual production levels world wide are 190mill tonnes of bauxite . This needs to increase to 226.8 - 252mill tonnes bauxite annually to meet forecast production demands or
235.8 -262.0 mill tonnes annually to meet consumption demands. If Australia maintains its world wide annualised rate of 34% bauxite production ,to keep up with production Australia needs to increase production by 12.24 - 21 mill tonnes bauxite annually.
