Hi Kpax, interesting theory ! I work with Alzheimers researchers and they are working with several repurposed and new drugs on different models .The main chain of thought - without getting too technical- is that the best option is to prevent formation of beta-amyloid plaque. This depends on genetics in part -,the APOE4/E4 allele for example makes for "leaky" veins tha allow leakage of amyloid into the brain and formation of plaque. There is a chain of thought that the amyloid is produced in the liver. So preveting the hepatic amyloid production is one way to prevent Alzheimers. Any damage to the blood/brain barrier - drinking alcohol, head injuries etc will also cause leakage. Current drugs are designed to dissolve the amyloid and increese the clearance from the brain, how ever this doesn't reverse the cognitive decline. So either a drug that can reverse the decline and restore pathways or a drug that prevents production and/or build up of the plaque before the cognitive decline sets in would be ideal. Neuroinflammation is only one part of Alzheimers but reducing it would definitely be beneficial, if this is what you are suggesting Monepantel could do.
