Really ? I dont agree. My experience is that announcements by and on behalf of most companies are most often made with the sanction of the appropriate people - as such powers/responsibilities are delegated by the board but I don't necessarily think that the precise wording and content of every announcement is reviewed by each board member.

Maybe it just happens to be the case that the lads said Clive can you make an announcement along the lines discussed. You can read too much into these things I think.

Maybe they feel that such an announcement from a would be independent director (whose primary function it is to call the exec to account and keep the lads honest) carries with it more credibility Maybe the execs felt they are too busy to take care of it - who knows.

You can second guess their MO all you want but it is just your perception of good judgement versus theirs at the end of the day and I wouldn't be tying myself in knots about it too much.
