Amazing question, page-5

pintohoo I believe that this requirement for society to house feed and all things sundry for its citizens is a relatively new phenomenon. In my time, and I am old but not that old, we made decisions about what we could or couldn’t do base on our ability to take care of ourselves-we did not expect or rely on society to do it for us (eg housing, food, new car, new stereo, another holiday etc etc). As an example if you could not afford to adequately care for another child you deferred having another child.

It now appears, including your oft written opinion, that it is expected that “society” should provide all things to all and sundry.

While I accept there is a cohort that does require above the odds assistance through no fault of thier own. However the “requirement” for “society” to help everyone (eg child care subsidies for households earning $400k plus) is a relatively recent phenomenon.

If this is what the electorate wants then it needs to be funded and as I stated before, which you spiff reply to, is the only bucket that has that kind of dosh is an increased GST and in my view it needs to move to 15%. (The 5 previous buckets you recommended in my view were not sustainable).
