Online retailing is a new paradigm. It's not just amazon, although amazon account for huge revenues and market share (35% according to google). I perceive it to be like cars replacing the horse and cart. It's a permanent technological shift. It's no good fighting such a thing, humans are always seeking more gain for less effort in their economic activities so there's no chance of going back. Globalization is the other big factor as well.
