AMBRI to Develop Bird Flu Diagnostic Using Its Ion
Channel Technology
AMBRI Limited today announced that it would extend its commercial pipeline to
include a unique diagnostic test for Bird Flu.
AMBRI chief executive Roman Zwolenski said today that AMBRI has long been
aware of the massive market need for rapid tests in people with suspected
respiratory infections. The global risk of a bird flu pandemic would significantly
expand this market opportunity.
AMBRI’s ICS™ biosensor technology lends itself to performing multiple tests at the
one time in a rapid test format on a single chip. The company has recently shown in
a laboratory test bed system that three different assays can be performed using its
proprietary technology, including testing for the commonest human influenza type A.
A biosensor for Bird Flu (Avian Influenza type H5N1) will now be added to a new
multi test chip configuration.
“We seek to develop a three test chip to distinguish serious new infections such as
Bird Flu from common influenza strains such as Flu A or Flu B,” said Mr. Zwolenski.
“The AMBRI technology provides a unique platform to develop a novel diagnostic of
this type for global markets.”
